Just few weeks after the food and drug administration (FDA) significantly restricted the use of the diabetes drug Rosiglitazone (AvandiaŽ; GlaxoSmithKline) the agency has announced the withdrawal of another metabolic drug Sibutramine (MeridiaŽ [USA], ReductilŽ [other countries]; Abbott) and almost for the same reason; cardiovascular risk. Until October 8, Sibutramine along with Orlistat (XenicalŽ; Hoffman-La Roche) were the only two drugs licensed in the USA for the long-term treatment of obesity. However Sibutramine is to be withdrawn after the FDA announcement on October 8, 2010.
Dr Hussein Tajuri has sadly passed away early this morning as a result of an MI. Dr Hussein was one of the longest serving drs at the Diabetic Hospital. Though did not specialize, he took up postgrad training in Family Medicine at the Libyan Board & was due to obtain his degree next year. He had lost his first wife as a result of cancer. He had since remarried & is survived by 4 children. He will be remembered as a popular & caring dr.

قام المعهد القومي للتدريب بالعباسية في جمهورية مصر العربية بتخريج المجموعة الأولى من الأطباء المتدربين الليبيين.
وقال المتحدث باسم وزارة الصحة المصرية، عبد الرحمن شاهين، إن عدد الأطباء الليبيين المتدربين بلغ حوالي 451 متدرباً، تم توزيعهم على مجموعات في إحدى عشر تخصصاً.
